Hadestown
The music, lyrics and book are all by Anais Mitchell. The musical has been developed with and is directed by Rachel Chavkin. It's being produced in London by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, Tom Kirdahy and the National Theatre, in association with JAS Theatricals. And there's a crack creative team on board. This is Hadestown, a blend of two ancient Greek myths designed to delight. The tale of the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice and the story of King Hades and his wife Persephone has been called a 'deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience', inviting you to imagine a strange new world.
The music, according to the critics, sticks in your head, which means you'll be singing it long after the event. The Broadway production was nominated for 14 Tony Awards and won eight including Best Musical, along with the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album. It went on to perform 1000 times at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre. The West End premiere kicks off on 10th February 2024, giving you plenty of time to secure your Hadestown theatre tickets nice and early. The cast will be announced nearer the time, and we're sure it's going to be an awesome collection of talent. Not to be missed!

Exceptional Experience This Show has exceeded all my expectations. The Musicians are top notch and it was an absolute delight to see them all perform. I also love the new cast of Persephone and Hades, not to forget the marvellous Hermes, she is the best Narrator the show could ask for :)

Excellent production, but Lyric needs a makeover… Great performances and fantastic staging, offset by Lyric’s underlying odour and a ventilation system so loud that it invades the quieter moments, often making the more subtle dialogue near impossible to hear

An Australian Perspective Hadestown is the finest example of what can be accomplished in musical theatre. It is exhilarating in every respect. I attend a show each time I visit London and this is one reinforces that commitment. Do see it if you possibly can.

Aaamazing show Such an excellent show!! I have been at the 2.30 pm show with my Mum on my birthday and it was the perfect gift for me. The acting, the music, the voices everything was truly amazing. We very much enjoyed the musical and I wholeheartedly recommend it

Foot tappingly good Hadestown was amazing. Loved the dancing and felt the voices all complimented both their character and each other.

Hadestown Took my daughter to see this as shezwanted to see it.
Didn't know the story or heard any of the music/songs. Was a bit hard to follow in places.

A musical spectacular This is a great show with a great story line and some really catchy songs. The sound was not perfect as I couldn’t understand all the lyrics (or maybe some of the actors need to work on their delivery).

A gorgeous soundscape and feast for the eyes I absolutely loved this show. The music is gorgeous varying from New Orleans style jazz to emo ballads. The singers were fantastic and the lighting and set were stunning.

Interesting concept This is a high energy show, beautifully performed by the actors and dancers. The set is great and visually stunning.
My criticism is that the story rambles at times and is difficult to hear the words as the balance between music and voice is wrong. I struggled to hear what Hermes was saying, despite her vibrant performance.

Hadestown is an emotional trip through the underworld and gods from the past . Excellent acting and singing . I only cried three times through the performance and that is because I had to control myself . It was an emotional, evocative and thoughtful performance. Excellent cast , staging , and music . Great story makes this show a joy to go to live theatre .

Unexpectedly wonderful I didnt know what I was going in to but this show was an unexpectedly wonderful experience. Everything from the cast and the music to the stageart and lighting.

Unique musical theatre experience Hades town brought Greek myths bang up to date and into a New Orleans jazz cafe! The musicianship was phenomenal and the acting and performing were world class too. It totally draws you into the story with some incredible songs, great messages about modern society and brilliant use of stage management with the revolving stage and trapdoor. Funny, moving, thought-provoking and a must-see!

A pleasant, lively, easy to watch show I personally found the first half a bit slow but found the second half much better - without spoiling the story, the ending could have been a bit more upbeat.

Modern und mitreißend - unbedingt hingehen! Die Geschichte um Hades, Persephone, Orpheus und Eurydike ist modern und liebevoll erzählt, voller Power und Gefühl. Hat sich sehr gelohnt! Die Live Musik war grandios und alle Darsteller einfach wundervoll. Danke an das ganze Team.
